Playing without an account

You do not need to sign in to play. Your progress — experience, cosmetic ranks, unlocked piece skins and arenas, and your settings — is stored locally in your browser or on your device using standard local storage. It stays there. It is not sent anywhere unless you choose to sign in for cross-device sync (below).

Optional email sync

If you want your cosmetic progress to follow you to another device, you can sign in with your email address. We send a one-time code to that address to confirm it is yours; there is no password. Sign-in is handled by Supabase, which stores your email and your cosmetic progress so it can be restored on your other devices.

Signing in is entirely optional. Skip it and the game still plays in full, including offline. Only cosmetic progress is ever synced — nothing about the game is gated behind an account.

Analytics

The website version at clankerchess.com may send basic, privacy-friendly usage analytics (Vercel Analytics) — for example, that a page was loaded. This is aggregate traffic information. There are no ads and no advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share your personal data.

On-device features

The coach hints, the Why panel, the puzzles, the opening book, and the post-game review all run on your device, inside the game's bundled chess engine. They do not call out to any server, and the core game works with the network switched off.

Children

Clankerchess is a stylized robot chess game with no chat, no user-generated content, and no purchases. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
